Referring Doctors
A Trusted Destination for Complex Eye Surgery Referrals
Desert Vision Surgery works with ophthalmologists, optometrists, retina specialists, and other referring providers who need a trusted surgical destination for advanced eye cases.
Led by Dr. Keith Tokuhara, our physician-led surgery center focuses on complex cataract surgery, IOL revision, secondary lens surgery, glaucoma procedures, anterior segment surgery, traumatic eye reconstruction, and retina-supportive surgical planning.
Our goal is to make the referral process clear, efficient, and reassuring for both your office and your patient.

- Cataract surgery after vitrectomy, retinal detachment repair, or silicone oil
- IOL exchange or repositioning
- Iris repair

These cases often require additional planning, careful review of prior history, and a surgical approach tailored to the patient’s anatomy and long-term eye health.
How to Refer a Patient
Referring offices may contact Desert Vision Surgery directly or use the referral options below once available.
To help us evaluate the case efficiently, please include relevant records when available, such as exam notes, imaging, OCT, visual fields, biometry, topography, prior operative reports, current medications, diagnosis, and reason for referral.
For urgent or highly complex cases, please contact our team directly.
What Happens After You Refer
Once a referral is received, our team will review the available information and coordinate the next step in care. This may include contacting the patient, requesting additional records, scheduling an evaluation, or coordinating directly with the referring office.
For complex surgical cases, Dr. Tokuhara and the team may review the patient’s prior surgical history, lens status, retina history, glaucoma status, and other risk factors before determining the appropriate plan.
Communication and Co-Management
We value strong relationships with referring providers. Our goal is to communicate clearly, support continuity of care, and help patients move through evaluation, surgery, and follow-up with confidence.
When appropriate, we welcome coordination with referring doctors for preoperative care, postoperative follow-up, and long-term management.
